Issue 107(5) 2026  Country-based issue (theme:  “Faith, Text, and Practice: Islamic Traditions in Central Asia”   This encompasses studies of the intellectual, spiritual, and social dimensions of the Islamic tradition in Central Asia, ranging from material culture and ethics to its modern-day practices. Rather than approach Islam in Central Asia as a monolithic and static object of study, the potential contributions here collectively address the question of how religious meaning is produced, transmitted, and lived in its various forms: on the manuscript page, in the ethical practice of the individual believer, along the mystical paths of Sufi brotherhoods, and across the digital channels through which contemporary youth encounter religious content. Among these are studies of the Islamic manuscript as an artistic and cultural artefact, considering how its calligraphy, miniature painting, and material construction function as a system to encode meaning in Central Asian manuscript culture, emphasizing form and materiality as constituents of religious and cultural meaning rather than vessels for doctrinal content. Other potential contributions address the transmission and lived experience of religious norms.
